Maliphofu School in Thaba-Tseka District, deep in the mountainous region of Lesotho is a low-cost prototype for a new school classroom building for the highlands. It focuses on maximising daylight whilst ensuring the classroom has a good year through climate control for Lesotho’s harsh climate.

To do so a North-Northeast orientation was chosen to allow for maximum solar exposure on a polycarbonate trombe wall which creates solar gains in the Winter. This same wall can be fully opened in Summer making the most of cross ventilation cooling.

Project designed and completed by Camille Bonneau + Pedro Clarke for Sentebale.
