Located in Bairro do Alvito, this project was an exercise in creating logic within the picturesque. The redesign of this house was commissioned by a developer who wanted to maximise the usable space of a deep plan building. To do so we relocated the bathrooms into the centre of the plan and reorganised the living space into a modern open plan living/kitchen area. The kitchen cabinets merge seamlessly into storage units that line what was once simply a circulation space. A new clearstory window above the bedroom door brings light deep into the centre of the plan. Out in the backyard the old existing sheds were renovated as a working space that opens back towards the main house.
