Urban Furrows - Rise in the City
New York City, USA | 2017

This artwork, created by Camille for the Rise in the City Art event, is deeply rooted in a language of geometrical synthesis and the (re)interpretation of urban landscape, inspired by the traditional Basotho Litema patterns. It exposes a myriad of different patterns and elements extracted from the city and its urban fabric, and reorganises them in harmonious composition, using simple lines and empty spaces. The colours, inspired by the motto “Khotso, Pula, Nala” - Peace, Rain, Prosperity - add another dimension to the work grounding the viewer in a visual reality and challenging us to (re)examine our notion of prosperity and to reflect about how cities turn their backs to nature.
